    Curio acaulis leaves lichened black

    Curio acaulis leaves lichened black
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

The grey-green cylindrical leaves of Curio acaulis grow erectly from a ground level branch-tip in a sort of rosette. They curve inwards slightly, are smooth, hairless and succulent, their tips rounded. Leaf dimensions are 10 cm long and 5 mm wide. Slight longitudinal channel lines are visible on some leaves in the photo.

Mud specks and black lichen are scattered upon the leaves… one’s environment shapes one’s life (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010).
