Drimia virens is a bulbous geophyte, a perennial that grows annual above-ground leaves and a flower stalk from a scaly bulb. D. minor is the same plant, a synonym and earlier name for a part of what is currently recognised as the D. virens species.

The plant is distributed in parts of the Western Cape from the Cape Peninsula growing on sandy flats. D. virens is not threatened in habitat early in the twenty first century (www.redlist.sanbi.org; www.pacificbulbsociety.org; iSpot).
