    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

The stony living quarters of this Eriospermum capense subsp. capense plant have forced the annual leaf into a jaunty pose. The leaf-shape is ovate; the smooth margins tapering to an acutely pointed tip. At the base the in-curving leaf margins allow a glimpse of the red under-surface. The softly curved longitudinal leaf ridges are clearly displayed upon the uneven leaf surface that is pale in the photo (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010).
