    Disa rungweensis inflorescence

    Disa rungweensis inflorescence
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Judd Kirkel Welwitch

The flowers of Disa rungweensis grow in a fairly lax inflorescence. The spike in picture has many flowers in its cylindric structure.

The cauline leaves, i.e. stem-leaves grade into pointed floral bracts, each clasping a flower ovary from below. The green of the bracts adds more colouring to the flower spike than the purplish brown of the corolla or the yellow of the spur tip.

Flowering happens in late summer to mid-autumn (www.orchidspecies.com; www.nyika-vwaza-trust.org).
