    Heteropyxis natalensis leaf veins
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Ivan Lätti

Venation of Heteropyxis natalensis leaves shows up clearly against the light. Otherwise it is inconspicuous, apart from the cream coloured midrib. Differing from the rest of the venation, only the midrib is recessed above and raised below. Lateral veins are uneven in size and line, close to each other and curving forward late, to join and avoid the margins.

The delicate, reticulated net-veining is interspersed with gland dots. There are domatia in the axils of the lateral veins (Coates Palgrave, 2002; Schmidt, et al, 2002).
