    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Judd Kirkel Welwitch

The Schizochilus crenulatus plants seen here have to grow and flower in the stream this year, the root tuber still anchored in the soil under shallow, flowing water. Usually found in shallow soil on rock near water in mountainous Mpumalanga country, the plants don’t flinch at the water coming closer (www.africanorchids.dk; www.orchidspecies.com).
