Protea obtusifolia is but one of the proteas that has a pink as well as a white flowering form. Between the creamy white and the deep carmine flowerhead colours, plants can be found representing a somewhat continuous range of intermediate shades.

In contrast to the situation concerning colour, flowerhead and leaf shapes in P. obtusifolia are quite uniform (Manning, 2007; Rebelo, 1995; Eliovson, 1983; Rourke, 1980; iNaturalist).
