Anacampseros recurvata

Anacampseros recurvata, previously known as Avonia recurvata, is a dwarf plant with fleshy roots adapted to desert living. The branched stems are short, soft and fleshy.

It bears small, succulent leaves that are alternate, having entire margins and pointed tips. The leaves overlap densely on the stems, arranged in rosettes at stem tips.

The bisexual flowers grow from stem tips, opening for short periods in sunlight. A flower has two sepals and five petals around many stamens.

The plant has three subspecies all occurring and occasionally seen in parts of the Northern Cape (Leistner, (Ed.) 2000; iSpot; www.redlist.sanbi.org).
