Cotyledon orbiculata var. oblonga "Macrantha" has bright green leaves with red margins. It produces winter and spring flowers as do some of the other varieties of the species. The plant branches and spreads, growing in full sun or partial shade.
There is a C. orbiculata var. oblonga with pale grey leaves that occurs in nature in the Eastern Cape, the Free State and Mpumalanga.
This plant is popular with gardeners for its flowers, foliage and low demands in the garden. Flowering happens readily, the season increased by proper care, although the plant itself is hardy.
The plant is poisonous to humans and livestock, even poisoning the meat of animals that eat them (www.thesucculentgarden.com.au; www.redlist.sanbi.org).
