Elegia tectorum female plant

The female Elegia tectorum inflorescence has spathes, spikelets and bracts similar to those on male plants. The perianth tepals of the flowers are bony and deep brown.

Three feathery styles are present in the flower. The fruit to follow is a three-chambered capsule. The flower is less than 3 mm long, the petals sometimes hairy in the upper half, sometimes smooth (Dorrat-Haaksma and Linder, 2012; Manning 2007).
