Heliophila juncea shrubs lacking flowers suggest that they might serve well as brooms for sweeping a bare-ground yard around the house.

Wispy or wand-like when the flowers are gone, there is little foliage to speak of after the rainy season by September at Kagga Kamma. The average rainfall of this region, received in winter, is generally low, around 100 mm per annum (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Manning, 2007; iNaturalist; iSpot; Wikipedia).
