Aspalathus forbesii is a variable shrub reaching heights from 30 cm to 2,5 m.

The species distribution is coastal from the Cape Peninsula to around Riversdale and Stilbaai. The plant in picture was seen south of Gansbaai in June.

The habitat is coastal fynbos on flats and slopes in limestone and marine sands where it may sometimes dominate. The species is not considered to be threatened in its habitat early in the twenty first century (Manning, 2007; Bean and Johns, 2005; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iSpot; www.redlist.sanbi.org).
