    Photographer: Ivan Lätti

The still closed bud of Pergularia daemia subsp. daemia grows on a long stalk that is hairy in texture, purple in colour. At the growth stage depicted the bud is ovoid, its surface displaying both a dull shine and a fine, whitish down.

Narrow sepals, triangular in shape with acute apices surround the base of the bud. They are about the only plant parts that are slightly green in the picture; the leaves in the photo belonging to neighbouring plants (Pooley, 1998; Van Wyk and Gericke, 2000; Germishuizen and Fabian, 1982; iSpot; Wikipedia).
