Dalbergia melanoxylon typically grows several stems in a small clump as in the photo. The crown of a free-standing tree is typically V-shaped, its branches fanning out from the narrow base where the stems emerge close together (Coates Palgrave, 2002; Schmidt, et al, 2002; Grant and Thomas, 2001; iSpot).
