Senegalia senegal var. leiorhachis leaves

The leaves of Senegalia senegal var. leiorhachis grow in threes or fours from the nodes, sometimes cushioned. The bipinnate leaves bear three to eight pairs of pinnae, each with 7 to 25 leaflets. The leaflets are oblong with slightly rounded to obtusely pointed tips. Leaflet colour is blue-green, the young ones in picture yellowish green.

The leaflets seen here angle up and forward. The petiole (and rachis?) are hairy, the leaflets not. The petiole usually has a gland present; small glands often also at the base of upper pinnae pairs.

The cream-coloured catkin flowers of this tree grow from leaf axils. They are 3 cm to 8 cm long and up to 2,2 cm in diameter. The catkin stalks are hairless. Flowering occurs in winter and early spring.

The fruit is a straight, flat pod about 9 cm long and 2 cm wide. It is khaki to pale brown, dehiscent when ripe (Coates Palgrave, 2002; Van Wyk and Van Wyk, 1997; Schmidt, et al, 2002; iNaturalist).
