Ixia campanulata flowers

The flowers of Ixia campanulata grow in a spirally arranged spike. There is a short, translucent, membranous bract under each flower.

The radially symmetric flowers are red or white, sometimes with a dark eye inside the base of the corolla. The flower tube is short and slender.

The longish yellow oblongs of the anthers on short, free filaments cohere erectly or spread in the flower centre. The style is of about similar length or very slightly longer, the stigma split into three short branches.

Flowering happens in spring. The photo was taken in September (Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; JSTOR; iNaturalist).
