Osteospermum sinuatum var. sinuatum, previously Tripteris sinuata and in Afrikaans commonly the skaapbos (sheep bush), is a rounded, spreading to erect shrub reaching heights from 50 cm to 90 cm. The thin stems are usually whitish.
The plant is found in the south and west of the country in the Western Cape, Eastern Cape, Northern Cape and Free State; also in Namibia. The photo was taken in the Goegap Nature Reserve near Springbok.
The plants, known for their drought resistance and responsiveness to rain, grow on dry rocky and sandy slopes, plains and flood plains. Various soil types, including loam and clay soils suit them. The species is not considered to be threatened in its habitat early in the twenty first century (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010; Le Roux, et al, 2005; Shearing and Van Heerden, 2008; Vahrmeijer, 1981; iNaturalist; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
