Asparagus asparagoides flower face

The six spreading tepals of the star-shaped Asparagus asparagoides flower are similar, the outer ones in picture slightly longer and narrower than the inner three. The tepals will curve back further to assume their final position in the mature flower.

The about oblong tepals end in several, slightly different tip shapes, rounded to obtusely pointed. The hazy green band down the slightly concave upper surface of each tepal ends in a hollow, not reaching the tip.

Only four of the six orange-brown anthers of the flower in picture are fully developed. They are barrel-shaped and longitudinally ridged (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010; Privett and Lutzeyer, 2010; iNaturalist).
