    Lessertia spinescens stem-tips where new leaves are beginning with hardly any leaflets present yet or not going to developing fully, reaffirm the specific name, spinescens.

    These upper, new growth parts are finely hairy. The old branches lower down are grey, no longer hairy (Le Roux, et al, 2005; iNaturalist).
