    After rain, lush Othonna macrophylla plants are all cabbage-like blue-green leaves below and slender, nude, green panicle branches above, erect in the Namaqualand veld.

    When it gets hot on the sunny days of winter and early spring, the ray florets spread nicely in the yellow flowerheads. Or the purple fruitheads prepare their pappus-parachuted fruits for flight to unknown fortune.
