Cotula laxa is an erect annual that branches mainly near the base, reaching 10 cm in height.

The species distribution is in Namaqualand in the Northern Cape and as far southeast as Montagu in the Western Cape. The photo was taken near Nieuwoudtville.

The habitat is sandy flats and lowland slopes, often in rocky places, mostly absent from fynbos. It may become abundant where moisture is readily available. The species is not considered to be threatened in its habitat early in the twenty first century (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010; Le Roux, et al, 2005; iNaturalist; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
