Lycium ferocissimum leaves

These pale to dull green Lycium ferocissimum leaf clusters seen near Nieuwoudtville are fleshy, their sparsely scattered surface hairs white and very short. Or are those enlarged surface cells?

Some of the rounded leaf-tips end in mucros, tiny pointed or hair-like protrusions. There are also leaves in picture curving in towards their tips, even forming shallow scoops.

Bare stem nodes are visible; this is where old leaf clusters had grown, scattered or spiralling around the stems. Each cluster or whorl usually consists of three to five leaves (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010; Le Roux, et al, 2005; iNaturalist).
