Lessertia capitata is a prostrate perennial. Stems, petioles and peduncles are densely covered in short hairs.

The species distribution is in the Northern Cape, the Western Cape and the Free State. This plant spreading its branches was seen next to the road between Springbok and Steinkopf, growing on flat, sandy ground. The species is not considered to be threatened in its habitat early in the twenty first century (JSTOR; iNaturalist; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
