    Lachenalia carnosa stem base

    Lachenalia carnosa stem base
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

The fleshy, cylindrical stem base of the Lachenalia carnosa inflorescence appears to be thinner where it disappears between the leaves. Higher up it loses the terete shape from vertical ridges immediately below each flower.

The stem colour is increasingly deeper higher up in the photo. Flowers may be more densely crowded at the top of the spike than near the base (Williamson, 2010; Le Roux, et al, 2005; Eliovson, 1990; iNaturalist).
