Moraea schlechteri stem and leaf bases
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

The Moraea schlechteri flowering stem that branches several times in a robust plant, is sheathed by the leaves growing from each of the lower nodes. The short stem branches end in a few flowers each. The flowers succeed each other in a zigzag pattern up their stem.

Longitudinal veins are visible upon the leaves but there are no thickened leaf midribs (Le Roux, et al, 2005; Leistner, (Ed.), 2000; iNaturalist).
