    The unusual Stipagrostis ciliata var. capensis ligules, the conspicuous hairy rings around the culm nodes, contribute to the plant’s identification, as do the tall feathery plumed inflorescences. These dense, white, disc-like structures vary in size on the plant in picture (Van Oudtshoorn, et al, 1991; iNaturalist).
