    The cluster of globose Tetragonia fruticosa buds, stalked and mainly yellow, are covered in large water cells similar to those found on the plant’s leaves.

    The opening flower still conceals its many stamens. The five, triangular segments only begin to part, showing an anther (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010; Manning, 2007; Le Roux, 2005).
