Flower stems of Aristea capitata are cylindrical, the leaves long, green and strap-shaped. The bright blue flowers have six tepals. Many flowers appear on each healthy stem. Tepal shape is obovate, slightly folded lengthwise along the centre.

Individual flowers last for a few hours only. Just a few will open at one time. The stem will therefore have fresh flowers for quite some time. The dry stalks tend to persist for a few months after the blooming (Manning, 2009; iNaturalist).
