    This Berkheya fruticosa flowerhead has open disc florets right to its centre. The five pointed lobes of each tall and narrow floret angle outwards.

    All the seed production happens on the disc, as Berkheya rays are sterile. Branched styles are visible over some outer florets, the florets in the centre seem to only have one well exserted stamen each (Le Roux, et al, 2005; iNaturalist).
