A Gladiolus maculatus perianth tube is obliquely funnel-shaped, about 3,5 cm long. The tepals are broadly lance-shaped with tips of varying length, attenuating abruptly. The dorsal tepal is slightly longer, often extending about horizontally over the stamens. Its margins are usually transparent. In picture, tepal colouring of the lateral pairs is similar while different from the rest, the upper laterals here widest.
The filaments are exserted. The anthers are brown or cream, the pollen yellow. The oblong ovary is about 4 mm long, the style arching over the stamens. The stigma branches are up to 3 mm long. The fruit capsule is ellipsoid to ovoid, 12 mm long.
The bracts in picture are glaucous and narrow (Goldblatt and Manning, 1998; Mustart, et al, 1997; iNaturalist).
