    The Tylecodon grandiflorus buds turn their pointed tips up, already before they gain full perianth length. Perianths and sepals are both finely hairy, as are the dark red-brown pedicels. The ridged, floral cylinders are slightly twisted near their tips where the lobes will spread later.

    Bright perianth colouring arrives gradually with elongation, the calyces retain their pale beige-green, subordinate shades (Smith, et al, 2017; Van Jaarsveld, et al, 2006; Manning and Goldblatt, 1996; iNaturalist).
