Looking straight into an Erica glauca var. elegans flower reminds of a pomegranate still half wrapped for last Christmas. Only the scale would be a problem as these little corollas, although similarly rounded, are much smaller than a decent sized pomegranate.

The four semi-enclosing sepals, now blotchy and worn, also show that festivities are something of the past. Seeds are probably already being formed inside the ovaries hidden within the corollas (Baker and Oliver, 1967).
