Freesia speciosa

Freesia speciosa, the showy freesia or showy kammetjie (little comb), is a cormous perennial reaching heights from 8 cm to 20 cm. The fan of sword-shaped, blunt-tipped leaves growing from ground level is sometimes flat on the ground.

The species distribution is small, limited to the west of the Little Karoo from Montagu and the Anysberg to Calitzdorp where the photo was taken.

The habitat is rocky outcrops and flats of karoid scrub, the stony soil shale-derived, the corms sometimes wedged in cracks on south-facing sandstone cliffs.
