Euphorbia restricta is a small stem succulent. It resembles E. barnardii, another Euphorbia with an overlapping distribution in Limpopo. The branching plant appears like a smaller version of E. barnardii.

    E. restricta, a South African endemic, grows in a small distribution on a few Limpopo mountains. The specific name restricta is said to be derived from the plant's small distribution area.

The habitat is montane, dolomitic boulders at elevations of about 1500 m. Mist-belt grassland is the typical terrain. The species is not threatened in habitat early in the twenty first century; although rare, the population is stable. Mountaintops are fortunately not the worst hit areas when it comes to human interference in natural vegetation. Nowhere is safe though (Smith, et al, 2017; Germishuizen and Fabian, 1982; www.highlandsucculents.com; www.plantzafrica.com; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
