The Kalanchoe sexangularis buds in picture are erect and cylindrical, showing dark central columns against the sunlight, caused by the presence of eight stamens in two concentric whorls, as well as a style in each tube. The styles divide at their tops, each into four stigmatic lobes, one for each carpel. There are four nectar glands (or squamae) present in the corolla tube base, alternating with the four carpels. The product of these glands interests visiting pollinators.

Just visible at some corolla tube bases are some of the four short sepal tips of each flower. Now negligible, the sepals once enveloped the corollas in bud (Smith, et al, 2017; Leistner, (Ed.), 2000; iNaturalist).
