Floral parts of this Lapeirousia fabricii at the start of blooming offer different visual appeal. The upper tepals have dull pinkish red patches on the outside of their lobes, confined to the central sections between the vein lines diverging in the lobes. The dorsal tepal is tallest, the stamens and style close to it. The lower lip’s three tepal lobes are about horizontal, protruding forward.
Begging hands as seen by people translate in flower terms to convenient insect landing spots, a much more sensible asset in terms of plant needs (Manning, 2007; Manning and Goldblatt, 1997; iNaturalist).
