Lapeirousia plicata subsp. plicata, in Afrikaans commonly known as the blousterretjie (little blue star), is a cormous, stemless perennial reaching heights around 5 cm.
The plant forms a compact, ground-level tuft or cushion. The long leaf is narrowly linear to sword-shaped and longitudinally ribbed.
The species distribution is in the Northern Cape, North West and the Free State.
The plant grows widespread in succulent Karoo and arid renosterveld on sandy, shale and rocky flats. None of the three subspecies of L. plicata is considered to be threatened in its habitat early in the twenty first century (Van Rooyen and Van Rooyen, 2019; Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Bond and Goldblatt. 1984; iNaturalist; www.pacificbulbsociety.org; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
