Lessertia perennans is an erect, herbaceous shrub growing pale, branching stems that reach heights around 1 m to 1,5 m and forms colonies.
The species distribution is along the Drakensberg Escarpment in the east of South Africa, from the east of the Eastern Cape and the eastern Free State to KwaZulu-Natal and the south of Mpumalanga, as well as Lesotho. The photo was taken near the Sani Pass.
The habitat is seasonally moist boulder beds in montane grassland and shrubland, also near streams, at elevations from 450 m to 2400 m. The habitat population is deemed of least concern early in the twenty first century.
Three varieties of this species have been recognised (Manning, 2009; Pooley, 1998; Trauseld, 1969; iNaturalist; https://pza.sanbi.org; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
