The stalked leaves of Lessertia perennans are about 5 cm long and have stipules at their petiole bases. The pinnate leaves consist of six to eleven pairs of elliptic, oblong, ovate or obovate leaflets. The leaflet bases are wedge-shaped, the tips rounded. The leaflet blades are grey green and silky from hairy coverings on one or both surfaces. The leaflets are close together, their lateral margins folding in.
The raceme in picture shows the range of flower colours: dark pink to purple when the greyish calyces still form a big floral part, to pink open flowers turning blue as they fade. The lowermost flowers open first (Manning, 2009; Pooley, 1998; Trauseld, 1969; iNaturalist; https://pza.sanbi.org).
