Lampranthus coralliflorus leaves

The leaves of Lampranthus coralliflorus grow in opposite pairs, slightly fused at the base. Each pair is perpendicular to the previous one (decussate) and the leaves are often spaced.

The narrow, succulent leaves vary from cylindrical to three-angled. They sometimes curve in while their pointed tips may curve out. The margins and tips are sometimes red-purple, the leaf colouring otherwise grey-green, blue-green or yellow-green. Leaf dimensions are 3 cm to 5 cm long and less than 5 mm wide.

The wiry stems from which the leaves grow are brown to reddish brown, sometimes longitudinally striped. Near the tips the soft upper stem parts may be whitish green to soft pink and fleshy.
