The bright yellow flowers of Lampranthus bicolor grow solitary or in groups of up to three on short stalks from stem-tips.

The petal tips are often barely perceptibly red, but look behind, the outside or back surfaces of the petals are orange, scarlet or coppery. There are five, fleshy and pointed sepals behind the corolla. Buds herald the orange colouring. Corolla diameter is about 35 mm.

Many yellow-anthered stamens form a spreading cluster above the flower centre. Nectar glands form a ring in the flower base.

Flowering happens from before midspring to early summer. Flowers open around midmorning and close late afternoon.

The fruit capsules, initially fleshy, later dry, have five locules and no closing bodies (Marais, (Ed.), 2017; Manning, 2007; Smith, et al, 1998; Bean and Burman, 1985; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist; http://pza.sanbi.org).
