The leaves of Lotononis pumila are three-foliolate with the exception of the lowest leaf that is often one-foliolate bearing a single stipule at its petiole base. The leaflets are obovate, that means egg-shaped and widest near the tips, to nearly circular. The coarse, dark green blades are covered in short hairs. Pale midribs and ascending lateral veins are visible, the margins entire. The leaves have petioles, but the leaflets are without petiolules.

The short-stalked inflorescences comprise one to four flowers. The banner petal is white or sometimes yellow or partly yellow, the wings about white, not covering the keel and the keel pale pink to purple tipped. The flowers are up to 9 mm long.

Flowering happens from late winter to early summer (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist).
