The banner petals of Lotononis galpinii flowers, blue or blue-purple, have yellow patches with a little white in each corolla centre. The two wings hide the keel. Lotononis flowers are shaped similar to pea-flowers, the common form with variations in the Fabaceae family.

Hiking trips in the veld should not have time schedules that prevent stopping for admiring and studying the flowers. Looking, feeling, smelling, discussing and identifying by name is a rewarding pastime. Photographing helps with the memories. Picking is not as good.  Remember Jan Smuts: Stop to worship, then move on!
