A Leucospermum truncatulum shrub may also be slender and sparsely branched as here. Every stiff stem explores its own piece of sky in solitary, sweeping movements driven by the breeze.

When the new season brings fresh branching growth to stem-tips, the plant explodes in yellow-green fireworks from blue-grey launching beams of leafy branches.

This plant established below the scree on a Fernkloof slope has fitting partners in the stand of Othonna quinquedentata shrubs that appear exhausted from flowering. Both species produce tall flowering stems, lax and wispy, like over-extended tentacles searching the unknown on behalf of the surrounding vegetation.
