Brightly yellow involucral leaves at this cone-bearing stem-tip of a male Leucadendron salignum shrub spread below their flowers. They are spaced and twisted, reminding of the spokes of a wagon wheel.
The involucral leaves appear bigger and clearly brighter coloured than the normal, foliage leaves lower down.
The unopened male florets are dot-like in their compact, rounded structure as their pollen ripens (Manning, 2007; iNaturalist).
