The calyx of Jamesbrittenia aurantiaca appears too wide for the corolla tube, sitting loosely inside it like the foot of a child wearing a parent’s shoe. The green calyx is funnel-shaped with pointed lobes.
Dark longitudinal lines are conspicuous along the hairy yellow outer surface of the corolla tube. The tube has the typical Jamesbrittenia kink some distance below the flower mouth, where the broad corolla lobes spread only partly and assume orange colouring (Van Wyk and Malan, 1997).
