Jamesbrittenia racemosa kink in the corolla tube

The kink in the hairy Jamesbrittenia racemosa corolla tube is a recurring feature in the genus. The tube becomes about 1,5 cm to 1,8 cm long, the kink nearer the mouth than the base. In picture the tubes change colour at the kink, maroon below and dull yellow-grey above it.  

The small, green calyx has five narrow, recurving lobes. The fleshy pedicel is long, even hairier than the calyx (Manning, 2009; Le Roux, et al, 2005; iNaturalist).
