Stem sheathing by the Lachenalia canaliculata leaves also means the largest, lowermost leaf sheathes the second one above and opposite it. The smaller, upper leaf spreads from a point higher up on the stem.

Lower leaf surface blotches, faint and dull purple in colour, are repeated up the flower stalk, right to and among the lower flowers. Upper leaf surfaces are not blotched but longitudinally lined with sunken veins (Leistner, (Ed.), 2000; iNaturalist; www.pacificbulbsociety.org).
