The botanical garden on the town outskirts often exists due to the foresight of committed and visionary leaders who ensured the saving of "the natural treasure on the doorstep" before urban sprawl destroyed it forever.

There must be many such places near towns somewhere in the world waiting in their windows of opportunity for someone to secure them for posterity.
