Albuca rupestris is a bulbous perennial. Its long, linear leaves are narrow and channelled, darker green than the more erect flower stalks in picture.

The plant is found in the KwaZulu-Natal Drakensberg as reflected in an earlier specific name, Ornithogalum drakensbergense. This picture was taken in the Mkhomazi Wilderness Area during November, where the plant has formed a robust clump among roadside rocks. The species is not threatened early in the twenty first century (Pooley, 1998; iSpot; www.redlist.sanbi.org).
